Why was my account suspended? Reasons and solutions

UnderHost accounts can be suspended for unpaid invoices, resource limit violations, or AUP/TOS issues.

On this page

Account suspensions are usually resolvable, but the required action depends on the reason. The most common causes are an unpaid invoice, sustained resource overuse, or an Acceptable Use Policy / Terms of Service issue.

Unpaid invoice

An overdue invoice is the most common suspension reason. If an invoice is not paid by the due date, the related service can be suspended after the applicable grace period.

How to check: Log in to CustomerPanel -> Billing -> My Invoices. Any unpaid invoice will show as Unpaid with a due date.

How to fix: Pay the invoice. Service is usually restored automatically within minutes after payment confirmation.

Resource limit exceeded

Shared hosting plans have limits on CPU, memory, disk space, and monthly bandwidth. If an account repeatedly exceeds limits or affects server stability, it may be restricted or suspended to protect other customers.

Common causes:

  • A WordPress plugin or script running out of control
  • Heavy cron jobs or background processes on shared hosting
  • Disk quota exceeded; see Disk quota exceeded
  • Large traffic spikes, bot traffic, or hotlinked files

How to fix: Open a technical support ticket to identify the resource and cause. You may need to optimize the site, clean up disk space, order more resources, or upgrade to a VPS.

AUP or Terms of Service violation

Accounts hosting prohibited content or engaging in activities that violate the Acceptable Use Policy or Terms of Service may be suspended, restricted, or terminated depending on severity. Common issues include bulk unsolicited email, malware, phishing, abuse-linked services, illegal material, or attempts to evade prior enforcement.

How to fix: Open a ticket in the Abuse / Legal department. Explain what happened, remove or disable the violating content or script, and include remediation details. If the issue was caused by a compromised website, include the cleanup steps you have taken.

What happens to my data?

Suspended accounts are not always deleted immediately, but access can be limited while the issue is unresolved. Retention depends on the service, reason for suspension, and applicable policy. Act quickly and keep your own backups.

Do not delay resolving a suspension

The sooner you resolve the underlying issue, the less likely data or service continuity is at risk. If you are unsure why the account was suspended, open a billing, technical, or abuse ticket and ask.

How to restore service

CauseResolution
Unpaid invoicePay the invoice in CustomerPanel; eligible services reactivate automatically.
Resource limitOpen a technical support ticket; optimize, clean up, add resources, or upgrade.
AUP/TOS issueOpen an Abuse/Legal ticket; provide context, remove violating content, and document remediation.
