Upgrade or downgrade a cPanel account package in WHM

Change the package assigned to an existing cPanel account in WHM and understand how disk, bandwidth, email, database, and addon-domain limits are affected.

Use WHM's upgrade/downgrade tool when an existing cPanel account needs a different hosting package. This keeps the same account, domain, files, email, and databases while changing the resource limits assigned to it.

Before changing packages

Confirm the new package exists in Packages -> Add a Package or Edit a Package.
Check that the server or WHM role has enough disk and bandwidth available.
Tell the client if the change reduces limits, especially email accounts, databases, addon domains, or bandwidth.
Review billing in your own administration or client-management system if this is a paid plan change.

Upgrade or downgrade the account

Log in to WHM.
Go to Account Functions -> Upgrade/Downgrade an Account.
Select the account by domain or username.
Click Modify or continue to the package selection screen.
Select the new package.
Click Upgrade/Downgrade.

WHM applies the package and shows the updated limits. The account remains the same cPanel account; only the package limits change.

What changes

Area	Expected result
Disk quota	Changes to the new package quota. Existing files are not removed automatically.
Bandwidth	Monthly transfer limit changes to the new package value.
Email, FTP, databases	Maximum allowed counts update. Existing items normally remain, but creating new ones may be blocked if over the new limit.
Addon and parked domains	Allowed counts update based on the package.
Website content	Files, databases, and mailboxes remain in place.

Troubleshooting

Problem	What to do
Package is missing	Create it first under Packages -> Add a Package.
WHM says resources are unavailable	Check the available disk, bandwidth, and package limits for the server or WHM role.
Downgraded account is over quota	Ask the client to reduce usage or move them to a package with enough quota.
Billing does not match the new package	Update the service plan in your billing system separately; WHM package changes do not invoice your client for you.
