How to change your cPanel password

Change your cPanel account password from inside the panel, or reset it via CustomerPanel if you are locked out.

On this page

Your cPanel password is separate from your CustomerPanel (billing) password. You can change it from inside cPanel when you are already logged in, or reset it from CustomerPanel if you are locked out.

Change your password from inside cPanel

  1. Open Preferences

Log in to cPanel and scroll down to the Preferences section. Click Password & Security.

  2. Enter the old and new passwords

Type your current (old) password, then enter and confirm the new password. cPanel shows a password strength indicator-aim for a strong password (green bar).

  3. Save the change

Click Change your password now! You will be logged out and redirected to the login page. Log back in with the new password.

FTP and email passwords are separate

Changing your cPanel password does not change FTP account passwords or email account passwords. Those must be changed individually in cPanel → FTP Accounts or Email Accounts.

Reset via CustomerPanel (if locked out)

If you cannot log in to cPanel, reset the password from your CustomerPanel billing account:

  1. Log in to CustomerPanel

Go to customerpanel.ca and sign in with your billing email and password.

  2. Open your hosting service

Click Services → My Services and click the hosting plan you want to update.

  3. Change the cPanel password

Find the Change Password option on the service details page. Enter and confirm a new password, then save. The change takes effect immediately.

Password tips

  • Use at least 12 characters with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Do not use the same password for cPanel, email accounts, and CustomerPanel.
  • Do not share your cPanel password in support chats, emails, or public forums.
  • If you share access with a developer, create a separate FTP account rather than sharing your main cPanel password.
  • Store passwords in a password manager rather than writing them down.
UnderHost support will never ask for your password

If anyone claiming to be UnderHost asks for your cPanel password in a ticket, email, or chat, do not provide it. Genuine support requests will never require your password. If a task requires server-level access, it will be handled securely through other means.
