UnderMail business email: plans, features and getting started
UnderMail is UnderHost's hosted business email on SmarterMail: professional mailboxes on your domain with SpamExperts filtering, webmail, IMAP/POP3, a web drive and OnlyOffice. Plans, setup steps and limits.
On this page
UnderMail is UnderHost's hosted business email. It gives your team professional addresses on your own domain, such as sales@yourcompany.com, on a managed service powered by SmarterMail. Every plan includes SpamExperts Premium filtering, webmail, IMAP/POP3 access, a web drive and the OnlyOffice document suite. UnderHost monitors the email servers around the clock, and email backup and recovery are included.
Three UnderMail services
| Service | What it is | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| UnderMail hosting (Mini, Business) | Standalone mailboxes on your domain | People and teams who read and reply to email. This guide. |
| UnderMail SMTP Relay | A managed outbound sending service | Websites and applications that send mail. See UnderMail SMTP Relay. |
| UnderMail on shared hosting | The email filtering and delivery platform included with every shared hosting plan | Email accounts you create in cPanel on a shared hosting plan. See Set up email in cPanel. |
You do not need a separate UnderMail plan for email on a shared hosting account. UnderMail hosting suits you when your website is elsewhere, when you only need email, or when you want email kept separate from your web hosting.

Order and connect your domain
Order a plan
Choose UnderMail Mini or UnderMail Business on the UnderMail page or in CustomerPanel under Email Solutions, and complete the order.
Get your account details
After the order, UnderHost provides your UnderMail portal login and the DNS records your domain needs: the MX records that bring mail to UnderMail, and the SPF and DKIM records that prove your mail is genuine. If anything is missing, open a ticket.
Update your DNS
Add the records where your domain's DNS is managed. If your DNS is in cPanel, use the Zone Editor (see cPanel Zone Editor) and set Email Routing to remote. See cPanel Email Routing.
Create your mailboxes
Log in to the UnderMail portal, add a mailbox for each person or department, and send a test message to an outside address.
Create the mailboxes in UnderMail before you change the MX records, so no incoming mail is lost. DNS changes can take a few hours to reach everyone. Copy old messages over with IMAP, or ask support for help with the move.
Mailboxes, aliases and routing
- Mailboxes: one for each person, plus shared ones such as
info@orsupport@. - Aliases: extra addresses that deliver to an existing mailbox, for example
billing@into the accounts mailbox. - Domain aliases: add other domains you own so that mail to
you@otherdomain.comreaches the same mailboxes. - Forwarding: send copies of a mailbox's mail to another address.
- Catch-all: collect mail sent to addresses that do not exist. It catches typos, but also a lot of spam, so review it regularly.
- Filters and rules: file recurring messages into folders and flag important senders automatically.
- Auto-responders: away messages and automatic confirmations.
Webmail, phones and desktop apps
Read mail in the browser with Roundcube or Horde webmail, or connect compatible desktop and mobile apps with IMAP or POP3. Use IMAP if you read mail on more than one device, so every device sees the same folders and read status. Use the server names and ports provided with your account details. If you cannot find them, ask support. For step-by-step app setup, see Configure Outlook, Thunderbird and Apple Mail.
Web drive and OnlyOffice
Every plan includes a web drive in the UnderMail portal for uploading and organizing files, and the OnlyOffice suite for creating and editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations directly in the webmail portal. Files count toward your plan's storage.
Keep your mail out of spam
SpamExperts Premium filters incoming mail. For your outgoing mail to be trusted, keep the domain's authentication records in place: SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Use the values provided for your account, and see SPF, DKIM and DMARC for what each record does. If mail still lands in spam, see Why is my email going to spam?
Prefer Gmail? Google Workspace
If your team prefers Gmail, Google Drive, Meet and Calendar, you can order Google Workspace through UnderHost instead. Google provides the Workspace service, and UnderHost helps with the subscription and initial setup. Editions include Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus and Enterprise. Ask the sales team which one fits, from the UnderMail page.
