Website to UnderHost-overview and options
An overview of options when moving to UnderHost: free service, manual cPanel-to-cPanel transfer, and what information you need to provide.
On this page
Moving your website to UnderHost involves transferring files, databases, and email from your current host to UnderHost servers. There are two main paths: use UnderHost's free service, or do it yourself. This guide helps you choose the right approach.
Migration options
| Option | Best for | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Free service | Standard cPanel hosting accounts; WordPress sites; most shared hosting | Free (standard accounts) |
| Manual cPanel transfer | Experienced users who want full control | Free (your time) |
| Manual file/database | Non-cPanel hosts, custom setups, VPS s | Free (your time) |
Free migration service
UnderHost migrates standard cPanel accounts at no charge. A technician logs into your old host using credentials you provide, copies files and databases, and sets up the account on UnderHost. You review the result before switching DNS.
Requirements:
- Your current host must use cPanel (or provide a full cPanel backup file)
- You provide cPanel login credentials or a backup file
- Standard shared hosting accounts-large accounts may be discussed case by case

Self-migration
Migrate yourself if you need more control, your host doesn't use cPanel, or you want to migrate in stages. See:
What transfers
| Content | Transfers in ? |
|---|---|
| Website files (PHP, HTML, images, etc.) | Yes |
| MySQL databases | Yes |
| Email accounts and mailbox content | Yes (if IMAP accessible) |
| DNS records | Recreated-you update nameservers separately |
| SSL certificates | New Let's Encrypt cert issued automatically via AutoSSL |
| Domain registration | No-domain stays at your registrar until you transfer it separately |
DNS cutover timing
The moves your content to UnderHost before you switch DNS. This means both the old and new servers have the same content for a brief period. After verifying the site works correctly on UnderHost (using the temporary URL or by editing your hosts file), update your domain's nameservers to UnderHost. Propagation takes 15 minutes to 48 hours-during this time, some visitors may still reach the old host.
