Server Management Console: reboot, reinstall, monitoring and rDNS

Manage your Cloud VPS and Dedicated Server directly from UnderHost CustomerPanel. Reboot your server, reinstall the operating system, configure reverse DNS, monitor live resources, and review server activity from a single dashboard.

On this page

The Server Management Console gives you direct control over supported Cloud VPS and Dedicated Servers from the UnderHost CustomerPanel. Without opening a support ticket, you can reboot your server, reinstall the operating system, configure reverse DNS, monitor live resource usage, and review recent management activity.

Overview

The Server Management Console replaces the older NOC management interface with a modern dashboard designed around the tasks customers perform most often. Everything is accessible from a single page with live status information, safety warnings, infrastructure controls, and monitoring.

Available features depend on your service type, virtualization platform, server location, and management level.

Opening the Server Console

  1. Log in to your UnderHost CustomerPanel.
  2. Open Services.
  3. Select your Cloud VPS or Dedicated Server.
  4. Click Dashboard under the Server Management section.

The Server Management Console opens in a dedicated dashboard where all supported infrastructure operations are available.

Dashboard Overview

The top of the dashboard displays your server's current information, including:

  • Hostname
  • Service ID
  • Primary IP address
  • Online or Offline status
  • Current operating system

Before any action is performed, the dashboard displays a reminder that management operations begin immediately after confirmation. This helps prevent accidental changes on production systems.

Server Management Features

Feature Description
Reboot Server Gracefully restart the operating system while preserving all data and configuration. Typical reboot time is between 1 and 10 minutes.
Power Controls Supported platforms allow you to start, stop, or power cycle your server directly from the dashboard.
Automated Backup Displays whether automated backups are enabled for your service. Backup restorations can be requested through our support team.
Operating System Reinstall Deploy a clean operating system image. This permanently erases all existing data and should only be performed after verifying your backups.
Reverse DNS (rDNS) Configure PTR records for IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. The dashboard can verify that your hostname resolves correctly before submitting changes.
Activity History Review recently completed management actions including reboot requests, operating system reinstalls, and other infrastructure operations.

Live Monitoring and UnderShield

The Recent Activity & Usage section displays live server health and resource information collected through the UnderShield monitoring agent where supported.

Depending on your platform and available monitoring data, the dashboard may display:

  • Current load average
  • CPU load history
  • Memory usage
  • Disk usage
  • Network download and upload activity
  • Active TCP connections
  • Running processes
  • System uptime
  • Detected operating system
  • Installed monitoring agent version

Historical usage graphs are automatically populated as UnderShield collects performance data. Newly provisioned servers or newly installed monitoring agents may initially display Not enough history yet until sufficient metrics have been gathered.

UnderShield is UnderHost's integrated monitoring platform for eligible Cloud VPS and Dedicated Servers. It allows live health information and resource statistics to be displayed directly within the CustomerPanel Server Management Console.

For services covered by an UnderHost Server Management plan, the UnderShield monitoring agent is installed by default where supported. This enables our NOC engineers to review server health during maintenance, troubleshooting, and support investigations.

For eligible self-managed servers, UnderShield monitoring is optional and available at no additional charge where supported. Server owners can install the monitoring agent at any time to enable live statistics and historical performance graphs inside the CustomerPanel.

Important Safety Information

  • Always verify that recent backups exist before reinstalling your server.
  • Use a normal operating system reboot before performing more disruptive maintenance whenever possible.
  • Reinstalling the operating system permanently deletes all existing data.
  • Verify your hostname before updating reverse DNS records.
  • Double-check that you are managing the correct server when your account contains multiple services.
  • Schedule maintenance during an appropriate maintenance window if the server hosts production workloads.

When to Contact Support

Most routine server management tasks can be completed directly from the CustomerPanel. However, you should open a support ticket if:

  • The Server Management Console is unavailable.
  • Your server remains offline after a reboot.
  • An operating system reinstall does not complete successfully.
  • Reverse DNS changes do not appear after DNS propagation.
  • Monitoring statistics stop updating unexpectedly.
  • You require restoration from an automated backup.

When contacting support, include your Service ID, hostname, server IP address, the action you attempted, and any error messages displayed within the Server Management Console.
