Managing domains in DirectAdmin
Add, manage, and configure domains in DirectAdmin. Set up addon domains, subdomains, domain pointers, and DNS records for your hosting account.
On this page
DirectAdmin supports multiple domains per account through addon domains. Each additional domain gets its own document root folder and can have its own email accounts, databases, and SSL certificate.
Add a domain (addon)
- Log in to DirectAdmin
- Go to Account Manager → Domain Setup
- Click Add Another Domain
- Enter the domain name (without www)
- Configure optional settings (bandwidth limit, email, subdomains)
- Click Add
DirectAdmin creates a folder at /home/username/domains/yourdomain.com/public_html/ for the new domain. Point the domain's nameservers or A record to your server, and upload your files to that folder.
Create a subdomain
- Go to Account Manager → Subdomain Management
- Select the parent domain from the dropdown
- Enter the subdomain prefix (e.g.,
blogfor blog.yourdomain.com) - Click Create
A subfolder is created under the domain's public_html. The subdomain is automatically added to the DNS zone.
Domain pointers
A domain pointer (alias) makes an additional domain show the same content as your primary domain. Go to Account Manager → Domain Pointers, enter the extra domain, and select the destination. Useful for directing multiple domain variations (with/without www, different TLDs) to the same site.
DNS records
Manage DNS zones for domains on your account under Advanced Features → DNS Management. Select a domain and add or edit A, CNAME, MX, TXT, and other record types. Changes take effect immediately on the server, but global propagation takes 15 minutes to 48 hours depending on TTL settings.
DirectAdmin's DNS records only work if the domain's nameservers are set to point to your server. If you use an external DNS provider like Cloudflare, manage DNS records there instead and ignore the DirectAdmin DNS zone.
