Cannot access your control panel-what to check
Diagnose and fix control panel login failures for cPanel, DirectAdmin, CloudPanel, and aaPanel. Covers wrong passwords, blocked ports, suspended accounts,
On this page
Most control panel login failures fall into one of five categories: wrong URL, wrong password, a blocked port, a blocked IP, or account suspension. Work through this checklist from top to bottom.
Quick checklist
- Are you using the correct login URL from your welcome email?
- Are you using the control panel password-not your CustomerPanel billing password?
- Is the panel port (2083, 2222, 8443) accessible from your current network?
- Have you had multiple failed login attempts that may have triggered an IP block?
- Is your hosting account current on payments (check for suspension)?
- Is the server online? Check network status.
Wrong URL or port
Each control panel uses a specific port. Using the wrong URL or port will simply time out or give a "connection refused" error.
| Panel | Correct URL format |
|---|---|
| cPanel | https://yourdomain.com:2083 or https://server.underhost.com:2083 |
| DirectAdmin | https://server.underhost.com:2222 |
| CloudPanel | https://YOUR.SERVER.IP:8443 |
| aaPanel | http://YOUR.SERVER.IP:PORT/path-check welcome email for exact URL |
Your server hostname and IP address are in CustomerPanel under Services → My Services → service details.
Wrong password
Your control panel password is not the same as your CustomerPanel billing password. These are separate credentials. Common mistakes:
- Using CustomerPanel email/password on the cPanel or DirectAdmin login screen
- Using an old password after it was changed
- Copy-paste errors with extra spaces or special characters
To reset the control panel password: log in to CustomerPanel → Services → My Services → click your service → Change Password.
Port blocked by your network firewall
Corporate offices, universities, hotels, and some ISPs block non-standard ports. If cPanel port 2083, DirectAdmin port 2222, or CloudPanel port 8443 are blocked, you will see a connection timeout rather than a login page.
Workarounds:
- Use CustomerPanel auto-login-the Login to cPanel / Login to DirectAdmin button in CustomerPanel bypasses the direct port entirely
- Switch to mobile data-your phone's data connection uses a different network that usually does not block these ports
- Use a VPN-a VPN tunnels your connection through a different network
IP blocked by the server
cPanel and DirectAdmin both include brute-force protection. After several failed login attempts, your IP address may be blocked temporarily (typically 15–30 minutes for cPanel).
- Wait 30 minutes and try again
- Try from a different network or use the CustomerPanel auto-login method
- Open a support ticket to have the block removed immediately if you need access urgently
For aaPanel and CloudPanel on VPS, a UFW or iptables firewall rule may also be blocking your IP if Fail2Ban is configured. Check the server firewall rules if you have SSH access.
Account suspended
A suspended cPanel or DirectAdmin account will show a suspension message instead of the control panel. Suspensions are most often caused by:
- Overdue invoice-log in to CustomerPanel and check Billing → My Invoices
- Resource limit violations-excessive CPU, disk, or memory usage
- Abuse complaint or policy violation
To resolve a suspension: log in to CustomerPanel, pay any outstanding invoices, then open a support ticket if the account is not automatically unsuspended within a few minutes.
Server not responding
If the control panel URL does not load at all (not even an error page), the server may be offline or unreachable. Check the UnderHost network status page for any known incidents. You can also use ping and traceroute to test connectivity to the server IP.
When to open a ticket
Open a support ticket from CustomerPanel if:
- You have tried the steps above and still cannot log in
- The server appears to be offline or unresponsive
- Your account is suspended and you believe it should not be
- Your IP is blocked and you cannot wait or use a workaround
- You are unsure which panel or URL to use for your specific service
